DoT asks Delhi Government to facilitate installation and operation of mobile towers
The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has asked the Delhi government and the three municipal bodies of Delhi to facilitate installation of new towers and examine the issues related to de-sealing of existing towers.
The move comes after the telecom operators approached DoT and the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) to look into the issue of tower sealing in the capital. The operators are of the view that sealing of towers has been responsible for the growing instances of call drops in the capital.
The operators have stated that for every 40 towers sealed by the government, they witness an increase of 20 per cent in call drops. As per the numbers reported by the operators, a total of 1,700 sites have been sealed all over the country since September 2013.
The operators have requested the government to de-seal the towers immediately, as they have paid all the required fees and possess the necessary licences and permissions.
